Act 3: Casino Royale, Jack Palance, and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang revisited.

So as you may have noticed, if you've read the Movie Zoo before, its no longer a MySpace blog. "Gasp!" you may have caught yourself...um, gasping at that aspect. Well, basically, from now on the Movie Zoo will be bringing you its cinematic deliciousness one, to maybe two times a week, courtosey of the kick ass Racket Mag. I highly suggest you check it out, because really, you could be wasting your time reading Pitchfork Media. Really, they suck.

So, assuming someone is crossing over from the dredges of the Movie Zoo from my Myspace account, I last left off promising my opinion on the upcoming
Casino Royale.

Daniel Craig (The Jacket, Road to Perdition) is the new Bond. Truthfully, hes got a decent resume behind him, but look what the 007 series has done to Pierce Brosnan. Pierce himself was glad to be alleviated of the role, because he was tired of being pigeonholed into Bond persona.

First though, Im not sure about Americas relationship with James Bond. Its been done, and it constantly recycles itself, to re-introduce its revolving door of Bonds. America WANTS and seems to NEED Bond, because theres a deep infatution with a British man, whos ankle deep in ass and tang, while twarting his nemesis.

Casino Royale introduces Bond before hes at 007 status. He knocks out a couple of assissinations, and gets the "00" title added to his resume. He then goes into his first mission, which takes place in Madagascar, where he spies on terrorist Mollaka.

Of course things don't go right, and he decides to deviate from MI6, and find the rest of the terrorists. He follows a lead out to the Bahamas, probably bangs some chicks, blah blah blah, climax.

I can't get into this series. Maybe Im accoustomed to Brosnan, or maybe Im burned out on the whole James Bond/Mission Impossible schtick.

I do feel like I owe it to myself to watch this movie, if anything just to see what Daniel Craig can do with this role, which has garned an amazing of hype thus far, heading into the final stint of the awards season.

In other news, Jack Palance of many noteable movies (City Slickers 1&2, Batman, Cocaine Cowboys, The Horsemen) passed away to natural causes. He may have been the last legitimate link to a fading memory in cinema, the Spahgetti Westerns, and personally its sad to see something like that fade. Especially when we live in an age of careful romance comedies, remakes, and just horrible ideas green-lighted. Jack Palance 2/18/1919 - 11/10/2006.

I was revisiting "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" (2005) on dvd. Really, that movie was such a great flick. It added bittersweet humor in the aisles of domestic abuse, suicide, and cover-ups.

It may have been the role of Robert Downey Jrs trouble career, and it gave Val Kilmer a much needed face lift. I think they played well off of each other and it made the whole movie so completley palpable.

From a technical standpoint its not too shabby either. Using special effects to manipulate the narriation in all the right places, it could be a new trend setter (see Crank). My hats off to Shane Black who pulled it all together (who apparently has nothing else to do now).

In Trailers this Week:

What do Nick Cannon, Emilo Estavez, Helen Hunt, Heather Graham, Laurence Fishburne, Joshua Jackson, Shia Labeouf, Lindsay Lohan, Demi More, Martin Sheen, Sharon Stone, Harry Belafonte, Christan Slater, Elijah Wood, and Ashton Kutcher have in common? Simple, Emilo Estavez's new movie "Bobby".

For a second, lets look at this ensemble cast. Its a big mix between legendary actors, burned out actresses, and kid stars grasping for depth.

Really, on paper, this looks like a goddamned mess. Its like the Disney Channel, Nickeloden Teen Choice awards vomited there mainstays, and then Oscar legends walking the red capret slipped into it. It should be VERY intresting to see what happens with this.

Bobby is about about the death of Robert F. Kennedy, in the Ambassador Hotel. It also delves into the 22 people who viewed it. It actually looks very good, and a strong contender coming up in these award season.

Well, thats really all I've got to say for tonight. Im glad that this going to be apart of Racket Mag, where someone might actually fucking look at it. If not, read the Hawthorne Heights interview...shits fucking hilarious.

I'll be catching Stranger Than Fiction and maybe something else this week. I'll also in the near future be giving my best/worst list of the year.

Thats all for now.

Zoo out!
